The new bridge, that connects four townships in Yangon, will encourage faster development and boost activity in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone and Dagon Industrial Zone.
Myanmar's Dawbon bridge, newly commissioned into service, will provide a key infrastructural link between four Yangon townships, Dawbon, Thaketa, Pazundaung, and Mingalar Taung Nyunt.
The bridge is expected to lead to faster development in eastern Yangon and boost the Dagon Industrial Zone and Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
By increasing connectivity from Thilawa SEZ and other industrial zones, the bridge addresses the longstanding need of quality infrastructure, says Colliers International Myanmar.
It will be beneficial for cold storage and logistics providers, as it will facilitate the speedy transfer of goods, resulting in better quality goods, especially fresh produce and food products.
The expansion of productivity will, in turn, affect capacity, which will attract foreign companies seeking to outsource their factories.
Built under a consortium led by Tokyu Construction Co Ltd, Toyo Construction Co Ltd, and IHI Construction Co Ltd, with the assistance of Japan and in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Nippon Koei Col, construction costs are approximated at USD 37.84 million (JPY 4.21 billion/K 58.23 billion).
Construction commenced in April 2015, and the bridge was opened to light vehicles on June 10.
