Rapidly growing social and economic affairs in Myanmar have triggered a plan for an interim census to be held this year announced by the Ministry of Labor, Immigration and Population.
Before the 2024 nationwide census-taking the Ministry of Labor, Immigration and Population is planning to hold an interim census to review rapidly growing social and economic affairs in Myanmar.
The interim census is planned for November 2019.
Colliers International Myanmar told WILLIAMS MEDIA that "a sound, informative statistical system is essential in providing policymakers with the right signals to accurately identify gaps and draw the right policy conclusions to effectively address them."
"This is similarly helpful in assessing how Myanmar compares internationally."
It has been reported that the ministry will collect 5% of the total population in about 4,300 sample plots in order to get indexes for districts.
"Despite remarkable progress achieved over the past years to improve the data collection and analysis in Myanmar, considerable scope for further improvements remains going forward and for lining up the country’s statistics with international practices and standards," says Colliers.
